SUMMARY:Mastering the Sixteen Stages of Insight (Online & In-person Retreat)
DESCRIPTION:Mastering the 16 Stages of Insight\nFind out for yourself why meditation is one of the four foundational practices of our teaching. Take advantage of Acariya Doug Duncan Sensei’s mastery of insight in this powerful and rare two-week insight meditation retreat. Your experience of your mind will never be the same. Held at our home retreat centre\, the model of innovative awakening in the 2000s\, Clear Sky\, in the Rocky Mountains of BC. \n \n Retreat at Clear Sky\n \n \n Retreat at Home (Online)\n \n \n \nCOVID-19 RESPONSE\nOur main priority is to offer a retreat that is accessible and supports your health and safety. In response to COVID-19\, we are offering two options for attending this retreat. \nOnline Retreat from Home\nIt might not be possible to get to Clear Sky\, we invite you to join us from wherever you are in the world instead.\nBasic requirements to do the retreat online: \n\nBlock out the two weeks and be focused on the retreat for this entire period\, using this time and participating in the retreat as if you were at Clear Sky in person.\nParticipate in the daily classes and group practices.\nSet up a quiet space or location where you can focus on the Meditation Retreat\nIf there are enough people in the same time zone as you\, you could also make a cohort to meet to do a group practice throughout the retreat.\nNote: full details/ requirements will be sent to you after registering\n\n Daily Retreat Schedule \n(Time Zone: MST\, subject to change) \n\n9am  – 10am:  Class with Teachers\n10:30am – 11:30am: Group Practice lead by Sangha\n3pm – 4 pm: Group Practice lead by Sangha\n7:30pm – 8:30pm: Group Practice and Q & A with Teachers\n\n  \nRetreat at Clear Sky\nIn order to attend this retreat in person\, we require that you are able to meet our COVID-19 pre-screening requirements. We also have through health and safety requirements that must be upheld for the duration of your retreat. More details about these requirements will be provided here soon. \nWhy Practice the Sixteen Stages of Insight?\nIn life there is repetition – we do many things over and over again\, but we tend to do them the same habitual way because we stop paying attention after the first few times. The path of insight is about looking again and again\, and this is the literal meaning of the word ‘vipassana‘. \nScientists look again and again to analyse the data of an external experiment to see the principles at work in that situation. In insight meditation\, we look again and again at the arisings within the mind in order to uncover the patterns within. \nThese patterns are called karma. By liberating the unconscious nature of the patterns\, we liberate karma from neurotic habitual repetition. We make way for Buddha karma – becoming a manifestation of compassion\, loving kindness\, empathetic joy\, and equanimity in the world. \n \nWhat can I Expect?\nIn this retreat\, we are mastering the sixteen stages of insight through the practice of the foundations of mindfulness (satipatthana sutta). This is a fundamental text in Buddhism that establishes the strong foundation of mindfulness upon which the stages of insight can rest. \nDaily Schedule: Here is a sample schedule of what you can expect at this retreat. \nWhat’s Expected of Me?\n\nThis will be an intensive meditation retreat\, with many hours of practice per day. Therefore some experience\, especially with insight meditation\, is recommended but not mandatory.\nAn open mind and heart\, and a spirit of adventure are excellent things to bring!\nIt’s human to have some apprehensions about doing something new\, meeting new people\, or going to a new place. Particularly when all three happen together. We try to make this as supportive as possible.\nThis is a silent retreat. To deepen your meditation\, we ask that participants refrain from reading\, using the internet or phone\, or listening to music during the course.\nLastly\, our teaching and Clear Sky operate based on the ancient tradition of dāna or generosity. Please learn more about this profound practice before you register. \n\n \n \nMeet the Teachers\n \nDoug Duncan & Catherine Pawasarat Sensei\nDoug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Centre\, BC\, Canada. Achariya Doug Duncan received lay ordination from Namgyal Rinpoche in 1978\, and is a lineage holder in that teaching. Known for his direct\, humourous and compassionate engagement with students\, Doug embraces various traditions\, contemporary psychology\, and science\, to mentor all beings to a more awakened state. Catherine Pawasarat has trained daily with Acariya Doug Duncan since 1998 in an intensive spiritual apprenticeship that is rare in the modern West. She received lay ordination from Namgyal Rinpoche in 2003. In addition to Buddhist philosophy and its applications to daily life\, Catherine also draws on generative living and the arts. With Doug she is co-founder of Clear Sky Retreat Center in the BC Rockies. \n \n Retreat at Clear Sky\n \n \n Retreat at Home (Online)\n \nDāna\, Fees and Travel\n Dana and In-Person Retreat Pricing \nDana: This course is offered by Doug and Catherine Sensei through the ancient principle of generosity\, or Dāna. The retreat fee covers the cost of food and accommodation\, whereas the Teachings are offered by generosity. Learn more about Dāna here. \nPricing: As a charitable organization\, we strive to provide locally sourced organic meals and comfortable accommodations at an affordable price. Fees vary depending on your accommodation choice and early bird pricing. \n Dana and Online Retreat Pricing \nDana: This course is offered by Doug and Catherine Sensei through the ancient principle of generosity\, or Dāna. Learn more about Dāna here. \nPricing: In order to bring you this retreat at home\, there is an additional pay by the heart\, sliding scale admin fee* of $200-$700. The admin fee is to cover the costs of running these online courses – for equipment and software to provide you the teachings online. \nHow Much to Give? A short exercise: \n\nTake a few quiet breaths and center yourself.\nSpend another few moments contacting as best you can a sense of health\, strength and abundance (noticing without judgement if this is hard to contact)\nOffer an aspiration (using the below\, or your own words).\nMay this practice of dāna open up a space inside me to learn and receive.May this gift support the teachers and teachings for the benefit of many other people.May this gift directly support my own awakening through a strong dāna practice. This gift\, myself the giver\, and the teachers are all impermanent – with this in mind I give lightly and generously\, for the benefit of all beings! \n\nNow check with your heart and mind what amount feels both consistent with your situation\, and expressive of your aspiration. Remember\, you are free to offer whatever amount of dāna feels good for you right now.\nNow simply\, with a joyful abundant heart aspiring for awakening\, and awareness of the preciousness and impermanence of life\, enter the amount you choose to offer.\n\nAbout the administrative fee \nIn a traditional model of in-person teachings\, a retreat center or urban meditation center invites teachers to visit. In these cases the centers have infrastructure and organization costs to cover\, which might be covered by an admin fee. For the teaching itself\, dāna to the teachers is offered in a bowl. This honors both the sustainability of the teachers\, and of the supporting center. \nWe’ve tried to recreate this approach online. The teachers’ time and the teaching themselves are offered on the basis of dāna\, separate to the admin fee. With our dāna offering we are making a direct gift of generosity to the teachers to support their teachings and livelihood. Learn more about the practice of dāna here. \nThe admin fee goes to support the infrastructure and organization necessary to support them to teach. As anyone with an online business will know\, it can be surprising the costs of setting up a good infrastructure to support effective teaching and connection online. \nBelow are a few of the work and benefits that your admin fee payment is supporting: \n\nhigh speed internet (to allow interviews and classes on-line)\nonline class systems (Zoom)\nregistration / admin systems (Eventbrite\, Basecamp)\ncommunication systems to keep everyone informed\, share connection details\, teachings and other resources (Mailchimp)\nonline storage (for example\, Dropbox\, to allow us to let students watch recordings\, and to store and share selected teachings in other forms such as podcasts and video later\, and Amazon cloud)\nquality sound\, video and editing equipment (both for live teachings and to provide good enough quality for later sharing as podcasts and video). We are regularly updating our equipment to improve your user experience.\nonline calendar booking system to allow students to book interviews\nwebsite hosting and maintenance for sharing upcoming courses\, teachings\, blogs and other resources.\n\nMay all our efforts be sustainable\, abundant and for the benefit of all beings! \nWe welcome any questions. Please feel free to contact michelle@clearskycenter.org \n Online Retreat Requirements \nIf you are taking this retreat online\, we require that you devote your full attention to the retreat for the entire two weeks. \nOnline Retreat Requirements: \n\nBlock out the two weeks and be focused on the retreat for this entire period\, using this time and participating in the retreat as if you were at Clear Sky in person.  This includes a rigorous\, full\, daily meditation schedule. \nParticipate in all of the daily classes and group practices via online streaming.\nSet up a quiet space or location where you can focus on the Meditation Retreat\, and not need to engage in conversation or work with others.\nPut away your phone\, digital devices and other distractions.\nIf there are enough people in the same time zone as you\, you could also make a cohort to meet to do a group practice throughout the retreat.\n\n COVID-19 Policy \nPlease note\, we are taking measures to keep us all healthy during this retreat\, including: \n\nYou must have experienced no symptoms associated with COVID-19 in the past 14 days and will be required to take an online assessment prior to your stay.\nYou have not travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days.\nPhysical distancing (2m) amongst all visiting retreatants will be observed during this retreat.\nPlease bring your own face mask(s) that you will feel comfortable wearing. SUMMARY:Tantric Deep Dive: A Week of Empowerments
DESCRIPTION:Book now and get 10% off listed prices. Offer valid until Mar 24\, 2020.\n \nIn Vajrayana Buddhism\, initiations\, empowerments or wongkur (Tib. དབང་\, wang) are considered the spring from which all blessings flow. Join us for a week of twelve initiations\, followed by a weekend of joy to celebrate our 15th anniversary. \n  \nA week of Vajrayana Initiations and Clear Sky’s 15th Anniversary\nNot only is 2020 Doug Duncan Sensei’s 70th year\, it is also our 15th anniversary!  To celebrate\, we invite you to join us for a week of rarely given vajrayana initiations / empowerments\, followed by a weekend of sangha celebrations. \n  \nRegister for Tantric Deep Dive\n  \nRegister for Tantric Deep Dive + 15th Anniversary Celebration\n  \n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhat are Vajrayana Empowerments\, Initiations and Wongkur?\n\n\nNamgyal Rinpoche\, our lineage root guru\, put it best: \nIn the depth of the psyche lie all possibilities in a state of unrealized potential. In every being there exists the possibility of experiencing transcendental consciousness\, which when the student is ready\, the Teacher(s) can make accessible to him or her via empowerment\, initiation\, or wongkur. \nOne should regard Wongkur as an event in which the Lama sows the seed of transcendental consciousness in the depth of the student. The seed will lie in the unconscious until the student brings it to realization in the practice of meditation. \n\n\nIMPORTANT NOTE: You may request to sponsor a Wong during this retreat. To request and sponsor\, register for the retreat and email Doug and Catherine Sensei with your request by February 1st\, 2020. \nWhy a Week of Empowerments?\n\n\n\n\nDoug and Catherine Sensei will be offering a total of twelve empowerments during this celebration week.  They have chosen to do so\, to honour lineage\, and to sow the seeds for future realization.  Many of the initiations given will be rare empowerments that they have not given recently. \nThere will be two empowerments a day\, with practice time in between. It will be a busy\, bustling\, engaging\, immersive and quite frankly incredible week. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Teachers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nDoug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Centre\, BC\, Canada. SUMMARY:Beyond the Cushion: Awakening our Highest Potential (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Cushion\nIf you’re like most people who care about the planet and growing your self-awareness\, you may have tried many practices – yoga\, counselling\, books\, courses\, meditation. If\, after all these sincere efforts\, your daily life still isn’t working as well as you’d like\, there are reasons for this. \nIn this online course\, we focus on various teaching and training methods that support you to make changes in outdated views\, limiting habits and conflicted emotions. We emphasize practice both as individuals and in community. Changing all this takes courage and work and revolutionizes your personal status quo. \nThe results? More joy\, more creativity\, more compassion\, more freedom\, and a greater sense of true wealth. \n  \n\n\n\n\nCourse Schedule\nStarts June 15\, 2020\nPLEASE NOTE to deepen and integrate your experience\, we are offering three optional weekly Master Classes during the course and an at-home Flash Retreat at the end. See below for more details. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass One – Monday\, June 15\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe start our journey exploring both the yogic and monastic paths to awakening – and how these are evolving to what we call the “planetary vehicle”. We need authentic and practical ways of doing the spiritual work in our daily life – at home\, at work\, and in our relationships. We get into most of our struggles interacting with others – so we begin by exploring communication that is clear and honest\, loving and compassionate. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass Two – Monday\, June 22\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor much of our days we don’t have the luxury to be sitting in meditation. Incorporating active practice into the rest of our day is as important as a daily sitting meditation. Active spiritual practice helps interrupt the painful patterns in your life and infuse yourself with peace and freedom without having to throw away all of your activities. \nThis week we’ll also explore the importance of training with experienced guides. Regular and consistent interaction with experienced practitioners fosters greater mindfulness in your engagement with both day-to-day activities and community building. This is called “dharma training\,” or “the tuning fork principle:” increasing your awareness and effectiveness through mentorship. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass Three – Monday\, June 29\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChallenge yourself to breakthrough! Undertaking regular and doable challenges in mindful ways opens your heart and mind to a greater sense of success. So many of our habits keep us in the same loops. The challenges rewire your brain and loosens many of your less helpful habits. Freedom is the result. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass Four – Monday\, July 6\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCommunity is fundamental to growth. Unfolding into freedom\, peace and love is not a solo event. We all need each other! Generative and sustainable community engagement is an essential element to a healthy and integrated spiritual path. When you support other practitioners\, you feel a wonderful sense of being able to contribute\, and gain insights into yourself that you couldn’t see alone. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaster Classes – Every Sunday\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere are weekly Master Classes during this online course to support your deepening learning and practice\, on the following dates at 3pm MST: \n\nSun. June 21\nSun. June 28\nSun. July 5\nSun. July 12\n\nWe encourage you to register and offer dana separately and uniquely for each of these Office Hours. You will receive details for how to attend each Master Class once you have registered for the Course \n \n\n\n\n\n\nFlash Retreat – July 10-12\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Flash Retreat provides practitioners with a valuable opportunity to integrate and seal the learnings from the online course\, in a format well suited for our contemporary lives. \nWe encourage you to attend this weekend retreat at Clear Sky Centre\, or together with your local sangha\, or if those not available to you\, in your home. \nMany students organize regional online sangha groups to support one another during the online courses and Flash Retreats. Also\, check your inbox for support sessions organized by the Planet Dharma team. \nPlanet Dharma provides themes\, meditations and guidelines to support Flash Retreat participants. You may also support your own unfoldment by attending the Master Class on Sunday\, June 28. \n\n \n  \n\n\nRegistration and Dana links for the Flash Retreat will be accessible to you when you register for the course. \nSangha power – consider organizing or joining regional in-person or online sangha groups to support one another during the online courses and Flash Retreats.  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Ignite Your Spiritual Life (Online)
DESCRIPTION:An Online CourseMay 9th – June 13th\, 2020Saturdays: 10:00-11:30am MDT *Click here to see your timezone Recordings available for those who cannot attend liveIncludes a half-day at home retreat on June 6th \nThe Biggest Certainty…\nIs that the future is uncertain.  \nRight now\, you may be grieving the loss of a way of life\, or\, perhaps you’ve tasted a new way of doing things and don’t want to return to the ‘status quo’.  \nWhether it’s concerns about money or sharing a small space with others\, COVID-19 has forced all of us to step out of our comfort zones and onto shaky ground.  \nHow do we adjust to this new normal?  \n \n Register Here\n \n \n \nA beautiful aspect of being human is the way that we support\, create and collaborate with each other. In short\, we are social beings.  \nSocial distancing is essential for flattening the curve. And yet\, in doing so\, something is lost. A part of our humanness is lost.   \nIn a way being in isolation is like being placed in a meditation retreat you didn’t choose. Being alone is difficult. Especially when the mind is also weighed down by financial\, health or relationship concerns.  \nReframing isolation into opportunity\n \nIgnite Your Spiritual Life is designed to help you turn your home and daily life into a supportive structure.  \nDuring our fifteen years of leading meditation retreats\, we have studied the art of creating spaces that are supportive when you’re alone and when you are sharing space with others.  \nThis course will guide you in principles that help you have a consistent meditation practice\, reframe negative thoughts and habits and re-connect with what’s most important to you.  \n  \nIf you can’t be in a space you love..\nLove the space you’re in. \nIt is likely that you are missing a particular space right now. Perhaps it’s your favourite cafe\, workspace or yoga studio. This course will help you adapt to your current situation and turn any environment into a space that supports your needs.  \nThis course is about establishing a consistent meditation practice (the inner) and getting your life (the outer) more in line with your spiritual aspirations\, we’ve made each session a balance of this inner and outer work. \nWe start with a guided meditation or mindfulness practice to support a deepening daily reflective practice\, and then give fresh practical tips for integrating it into your daily life. \nEach session is lively and interactive\, including breakout sessions for discussion in groups\, sharing via the chat function\, and time for Q&A. We offer home “play” exercises (we prefer this to home “work” as the exercises are designed to be exploratory and fun!) for trying outside of the weekly sessions to explore and integrate the topics. \n \n Register Here\n \n\nCourse Structure\n\nWeek 1: Creating a supportive space for your growth\n\nThree supports for being more mindful and present in daily life.\nThe missing element. Understand what a spiritual container is\, why it’s often forgotten\, and why it’s so important to achieving your goals.\nContacting that “aaahh” feeling that a well-created space can instantly create\n\nWeek 2 : Transforming habit and making friends with structure\n\nFresh awareness – tools for getting out of auto-pilot mode.\nLoosening and transforming unhelpful habits.\nHarnessing the power of ritual.\n\nWeek 3: Quieting the monkey mind\n\nCalming internal dialog and chatter.\nCleaning up draining conversations and speech patterns.\nThe power of forgiveness.\n\nWeek 4: Part 1: Cleaning up big areas of your life frees up energy\n\nIdentifying big areas in your life that drain your energy.\nBeginning to ease the common drain and tension around money.\nExploring your vision and purpose.\n\nWeek 5: Part 2: Cleaning up big areas of your life frees up energy\n\nWorking with distractions and overload.\nDeveloping a healthy relationship with time.\nLearning to “do nothing” – the importance of making space to play.\n\nWeek 6: The power of community\n\nMeditations to strengthen kindness and compassion.\nEmbracing healthy relationships.\nBringing it all together – how a strong community and spiritual container is a launchpad for your growth.\n\n \n \n \nOur Five Principles\nThese are the principles that have made Clear Sky into a place that wakes people up and supports their practice. We’ll lead you through these five simple yet empowering principles that have been time-tested over centuries. \nAs well as the core content on each of the principles\, each webinar will include meditations and exercises to try in your daily life. \n \nMeet Your Course Teachers \n \nKaren McAllister\nAs Clear Sky’s Chair of the Board and Director of Business Development\, I’m passionate about teaching the much-ignored principles of nurturing the factors – like honor your space\, structure\, and communication – that create the conditions we need to wake up more in daily life. I see how I learned and embodied these principles in my different roles at Clear Sky\, as the centre went from self-starter to second-stage growth. This is what I call “the hands-on way of doing an MBA with a spiritual bottom line!” \nIn my free time\, I love travelling\, speaking Portuguese and reading history\, architecture\, and art books. \nDuncan Cryle\nThrough 15 years of teaching meditation and mindfulness\, alongside an active career working all over the world\, I’ve learnt a lot about an integrated spiritual path.   \nAs a founding member of Clear Sky in 2004\, I’m amazed at the power that working together in compassionate service has for enriching and widening spiritual growth.  Combined with a dynamic relationship and a challenging career\, I have fun with a wide-ranging and holistic approach to spiritual growth.  The spiritual container is a key aspect to this and I’m delighted to teach and share this course. \n \nMeet Your Course Hosts\n I love plunging into things and that’s exactly what I did with Clear Sky.\nNow based in Nelson B.C.\, I’m part of a wakeful and innovative team where I’m delighted to say that meditation\, mindful collaboration and teamwork are an integral part of my work day.\n \n Michelle\n I’m passionate about diving deeper inside\, understanding what it is to be a wholesome\, spiritual being – a being that is participating in the creation of an abundant life and that believes in the powerful ideal of service for the benefit of all. What an incredible journey!\n \n Maryline\n Living and spending time at Clear Sky has put me in all kinds of roles. Through the teachings and community\, I can see clearly that where I thrived and where I’ve struggled can be directly related to each of our new principles in some way. Can’t wait to share them with you!\n \n Andy\n My life transformed upon meeting Clear Sky’s founding Teachers\, Doug and Catherine Sensei.\nTheir profound teachings inspire me to better myself and our centre so that we may be a beacon of compassion\, community and equanimity in our rapidly changing world.\n \n Ava\n \n Register Now\n \n \nQuiz: What area of your life is holding you back?\n\nSee how you’re doing in terms of the Five Principles\, and get simple tips for using them to free up energy. Take the quiz now. \n \n \n The course had a big impact on me. It helped me organize my life\, the way I relate to others and contributed to making more assertive choices.\nI learned how to better deal with my emotions\, specially my anxiety. Now\, I understand I am a better person and for that I’m very grateful.\n \n Lemuel S.\n I think this course is a beautiful\, utterly grounded and relevant way of making the spiritual life very real and integrated with how we are living every day of our lives. It lays an important foundation for a meditation practice that can actually go somewhere and lead to a well-rounded and truly fulfilling life.\n \n Ruth L.\n It’s really\, really brought me back home to myself. I found myself in the past very scattered and would put off all the important things\, the spiritual aspects of life\, the mindfulness and so on\, just to blast through my day and get things done\, but now I am really taking pause. I still don’t get everything done\, but I don’t get everything done in a much more calm and soulful way.\n \n Emmanuel P. \nCourse Cost\n \nWe offer this course on the basis of dāna.  If you’re not familiar with dāna\, you may have come across related approaches such as “pay from the heart.” Dāna is a Sanskrit term that translates as generosity in English. It’s radically different from the transactional way we normally interact in the world – where we give to get something back\, either a service or thing. Instead\, with dāna\, we give as a mutual exchange of generosity. It’s our joy to offer this course\, and we trust you’ll match our time\, energy\, and passion by giving an amount of money that feels good and healthy to both you and us. \nAs for our part in this pay from the heart model: since we have expenses hosting the classes and we are investing significant amounts of volunteer (service) time and our combined experience in creating\, teaching\, and administrating the course\, we are setting the minimum amount at $120 CAD. All proceeds will go to Clear Sky center. \n \nWe highly recommend taking time to check in with your heart on an amount that feels good. Find the amount you feel balances and honors your aspiration for this course\, the energy we are giving to deliver the course\, and what is sustainable for you. \nIn this pay from the heart exercise\, you might also consider what you pay for different things as a matter of course: a night out with friends\, a session with a chiropractor or acupuncturist\, or an hour with a life coach\, for example. \nYou’ll see equivalent live courses offered for between $120 and $360 CAD.  Over six\, 90-minute classes\, this represents an average of $20-$60 per class. \nWhy do you use a dāna-based model?\n\nThe practice of generosity is central to spiritual unfoldment\, whatever path you follow. In our own Buddhist lineage\, teachings have always been given on the basis of dāna\, and we are committed to this practice and its development in the West. Dāna is also a radical and – we believe – viable economic alternative to capitalism\, which our planet would really benefit from. We all know there must be something better than capitalism or its hungry cousin\, consumerism. We maintain that\, together\, we can offer a financial model that is based in life-affirming mutual support. Please join us in co-creating this promising economic alternative. \n\n  \nRegister Here \n \n  \nStill not sure? Fill out this online form and we’ll get back to you.\n  \n  \n \n \nBlog

SUMMARY:The Four Foundations of Mindfulness: The Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Four Foundations of Mindfulness: The Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta\nA Four Week Online Course | Starts April 6\, 2020 \n\nWhat are the four foundations of mindfulness that provide a platform for insight\, and ‘clear seeing’? Discover indispensable tools for crafting a powerful meditation practice. \nRegister Now\n  \nWhile we believe any undertaking can be a vehicle for awakening\, there’s no substitute for the power of one’s own profound experience of truth\, gained through meditation. This is why meditation is one of the four foundational practices of our teaching. \nIn this four-week online course\, we take a deep dive to explore the Theravadin tradition of vipassana or insight meditation. We’ll focus on the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta\, or discourse on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness\, which has been described as the most profound discourse the Buddha ever gave on mental development. \nThis simple yet powerful framework will help you extend your meditation experience to everything from subatomic particles to the vastness of space\, and all that’s between. \n\nRecommended Reading\nTo prepare\, please read Namgyal Rinpoche’s short and pithy Breath of Awakening\, a commentary on the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta or Four Foundations of Mindfulness. \nThe book is available at the Clear Sky Center shop\, or through our friends at Bodhi Publishing (recommend ordering well in advance\, as delivery times vary). Order Online  \n\n  \nCourse Schedule\nStarts April 6\, 2020\nPLEASE NOTE to deepen and integrate your experience\, we are offering three optional weekly Master Classes during the course and an at-home Flash Retreat at the end. See below for more details. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass 1 – Monday\, April 6\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMindfulness of Kaya. Explore awareness of the body\, form\, and the transitions between physical sensations. \nAs with all forms\, the body comes into being\, remains present for a time\, and then passes away. With this practice we can directly experience that the body (and everything else) is impermanent. \nWhat happens when one acknowledges this impermance? Join us and find out. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass 2 – Monday\, April 13\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMindfulness of Vedana. The second foundation of mindfulness includes cultivating awareness of feelings or evaluations\, and the transitions between them. \nIn this tradition\, there are only three feelings: pleasant\, unpleasant\, and neutral. No story! \nWhat does this dramatic simplification do to our interaction with feelings? As we note a feeling arising\, being present\, and passing away\, how then do we relate to our feelings? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass 3 – Monday\, April 20\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMindfulness of Citta. As we cultivate awareness of mind or states of consciousness\, we learn to watch as they arise and pass away. \nWhat then\, is mind? Does it make sense for us to link our wellbeing to our fluctuating states of mind? What choices do we have? We learn the answers through mindfulness of mind. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass 4 – Monday April 27\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMindfulness of Dhammas. As we cultivate ever-greater awareness of phenomena\, we develop awareness of the nature of consciousness (dhammas). \nAre we conscious? How can we become more conscious? Is the universe conscious? How does the consciousness “I” experience relate to greater consciousness? \nIn this online class we explore the contemplation of dhamma for these keys to spiritual awakening. \n\n\n\nMaster Classes\n\n\n\n\nThree Sundays\n\n\n\n\nThere are weekly Master Classes (akin to online Q&A Office Hours) during this online course to support your deepening learning and practice\, on the following dates at 3pm MST: \n\nSun. April 12\nSun. April 19\nSun. April 26\n\nYou can elect to attend all three or individual dates. \n\n\n\n\nRegistration & Dana links for Master Classes will be accessible to you when you register for the course. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nFlash Retreat\n\n\n\n\nMay 1-3\, 2020\n\n\n\n\nElect to deepen your practice via a Flash Retreat during the last weekend of this course.  The retreat provides practitioners a valuable opportunity to integrate and seal the learnings from the online course\, in a format well suited for our contemporary lives. \nThe retreat will include instructions\, online check ins\, and a Master Class on Sunday\, May. 3 at 3pm MST. \nWe encourage you to attend this weekend retreat at Clear Sky Centre\, or together with your local sangha\, or if those not available to you\, in your home. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nRegistration and Dana links for the Flash Retreat will be accessible to you when you register for the course. \nSangha power – consider organizing or joining regional in-person or online sangha groups to support one another during the online courses and Flash Retreats.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Six Yogas of Naropa
DESCRIPTION:An Advanced Meditation Retreat | December 6-22\, 2019\nJoin us for the final portion of our three-part series on The Six Yogas of Naropa. The final summation of this profound body of work\, we will explore Bardo Yoga and Transference of Consciousness Yoga. \nBardo Yoga \nThere are six bardos\, yet you only encounter four during your lifetime. Bardo Yoga is the yoga of the intermediate or liminal state. As it includes aspects of illusory body yoga and dream yoga\, it’s recommended that participants have done both of those practices. \n Transference of Consciousness Yoga \nTransference of Consciousness Yoga practice helps us prepare for when consciousness leaves this organism at the time of death. Practices include dissolving the sufferings of the six realms into a bindu which travels upwards in the central channel. \nAlso called the yoga of changing places\, this yoga speaks to other worlds and maintaining the light of sleep (as in lucid dreaming) or the light after death. As in other yogas\, its successful practice relies on practicing the Paramis. \nSee Early Bird Rates\n \nGrounded in fundamental principles of Tantra\, the Six Yogas of Naropa are one of the central practices of the Tibetan Kagyu lineage. These practices form a path to freedom through the development of deep understanding into the way things and formations arise and pass away. \nPrerequisites  \nThis retreat requires the following three pre-requisites: \n\n1 million Chenrezig mantras completed.\n100\,000 long Vajrasattva mantras completed\n100\,000 prostrations completed.\nOr special permission from the teachers (contact them at your earliest convenience as another practice is likely to be substituted/required instead).\n\nDana  \nOur teaching and Clear Sky operate based on the ancient tradition of dāna or generosity. Please learn more about this profound practice before you register.  \nMeet the Teachers of this transformative retreat\nDoug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Center. \n Achariya Doug Duncan received lay ordination from Namgyal Rinpoche in 1978\, and is a lineage holder in that teaching. Known for his direct\, humourous and compassionate engagement with students\, Doug embraces various traditions\, contemporary psychology\, and science\, to mentor all beings to a more awakened state. \nCatherine Pawasarat has trained daily with Acariya Doug Duncan since 1998 in an intensive spiritual apprenticeship that is rare in the modern West. She received lay ordination from Namgyal Rinpoche in 2003. In addition to Buddhist philosophy and its applications to daily life\, Catherine also draws on generative living and the arts. With Doug she is co-founder of Clear Sky Retreat Center in the BC Rockies. \n  \nDaily Schedule\nThis is a meditation focused retreat. Your practice will be in silence with a focus on a combination of walking\, sitting and standing meditation throughout the day.   There will be a daily morning classes and evening meditation with Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat\, as well as group meditation and personal meditation time. \nIn order to focus on your meditative work\, we ask that participants put away your cellphone\, books and digital technologies for the duration of the retreat. \nCreating a strong discipline for your practice will make the retreat highly immersive\, focused and profound. \n \nDāna\nThis course is offered by Doug & Catherine Sensei based on the ancient principle of generosity\, or Dāna.  You may have come across this is the form of “pay from the heart”. Dāna is a Sanskrit term meaning “generosity”. With dāna\, we give as a mutual exchange of generosity. It’s their joy to offer this course\, and we trust you’ll match their time\, energy\, and passion by giving an amount of money that feels good and healthy. \nLocation\nClear Sky is a 300-acre meditation cushion nestled in the Canadian Rocky mountains. We are 30 minutes from Cranbrook International airport in Cranbrook\, B.C. \nImportant\nYou are invited to spend extra time at Clear Sky after the retreat\, especially with it being the holiday season. It is important to note that due to their Christmas offering: airport drop-offs are not available December 23-25th. Departures during this time will require your own transportation. \nFees\nAs a charitable organization\, we strive to provide locally sourced organic meals and comfortable accommodations at an affordable price.  Fees vary depending on your accommodation choice and early bird pricing. SUMMARY:Becoming a Work of Art: Dharma Foundations Retreat
DESCRIPTION:A Dharma Foundations Retreat | October 11-13\, 2019\nIt is “better to be a work of art than make a work of art.” -Namgyal Rinpoche \nHow can we feel more grounded and positive in our being? \nIn these busy\, information-heavy times\, this retreat is an opportunity to connect with yourself in a simple\, beautiful\, and powerful way. \nJoin this retreat and discover 2000-year-old Buddhist principles\, the paramis. This practice helps meditators develop a solid foundation in their being so they can feel more love\, fulfillment and joy in all areas of life. \nLet your inner work of art flourish. \nSee Early Bird Rates\nWhat are the Paramis?\nParami is a Sanskrit word for perfection. The paramis form the foundation for a meditation practice that is strong\, fulfilling and profound. \nMeet the Teachers of this retreat\nDoug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Center. \nAchariya Doug Duncan received lay ordination from Namgyal Rinpoche in 1978\, and is a lineage holder in that teaching. Particularly when all three happen together. We try to make this as supportive as possible.\nWhen exploring our growth edges\, it’s natural to feel uncertain and awkward. And it’s very fruitful to transform that emotional tension into creative energy by drawing on your own inner resources – such as inquiry\, going with the flow\, and self-reflection\, just a few of the many kinds of constructive engagement.\nTo maximize your learning\, we ask that you refrain from reading\, using the internet or listening to music during the course. We make an exception for journaling\, course assignments and group celebration.\nLastly\, our teaching and Clear Sky operate based on the ancient tradition of dāna or generosity. Please learn more about this profound practice before you register. \n\n\n\nRegister Now\nWho are we?\nTo help you get acquainted with us\, some community members made this short video during our 2017 Buddhas in Action retreat. SUMMARY:Buddhas in Action: Awakening in Daily Life
DESCRIPTION:A Karma Yoga Retreat | August 9-24\, 2019\nCreate an unshakeable spiritual practice in our busy modern world.\nWe all need to earn a living and deal with day-to-day pressures. We want to relate meaningfully with those around us\, but we often feel unfulfilled. Work just leaves us feeling worn out and slightly empty. And sometimes the space between self and other feels like a tremendous gap. \nWhen we’re in the middle of modern samsaric busy-ness\, the spiritual life can feel out of reach. The wonderful news is that we can use contemporary spiritual practices at work and in relationship to feel fulfilled while doing so. These different parts of our life can support one another in beautiful ways\, leading to great feelings of meaningfulness\, balance\, and connection. \nThis retreat gives you the building blocks to apply awareness\, compassion\, wisdom\, and strength to each moment. The result is greater fulfillment amid daily life and meaningful connection with others and the world around you. \n \n  \nSEE EARLY BIRD RATES\n  \nWhy Practice Karma Yoga?\nWe’ve spent the last 14 years adapting this tradition of awakening through action to our modern lives\, at home\, in offices\, in conversations\, at our desks\, in meetings\, in bed and in the field. This profoundly practical application can help you find greater joy\, fulfillment\, and calm amidst your busy daily life. \nBy learning the principles of karma yoga (awakening through action)\, you can apply awareness and wisdom to everything you do. Cultivating this practice allows you to transform your work\, home and city life into a connective field of monastic or yogic practice. Your home becomes your monastery\, while your co-workers become your fellow yogis and yoginis. \nOur experience shows that blending study\, meditation\, and what we call “awakening through action”\, profoundly integrates spiritual practice with day-to-day demands. \n“Karma yoga has made me aware of how to streamline my energy to a sustainable\, smooth level of work. It has given me invaluable practice on focusing my attention on the task at hand.” – Lisa Feder \nPlease note that this retreat and Clear Sky welcome people of all religious backgrounds and beliefs. This retreat is also open to all experience levels. \nSEE EARLY BIRD RATES\n\nMeet the Teachers of this profound retreat\nDoug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Center. \nAchariya Doug Duncan received lay ordination from Namgyal Rinpoche in 1978\, and is a lineage holder in that teaching. \n \nWhat is Karma Yoga?\nWe’ve received some questions about the practice of awakening through action or Karma Yoga. Here is a short video which dives deeper into what you can expect on this retreat. \n \nWho are we?\nTo help you get acquainted with us\, some community members made this short video during our 2017 Buddhas in Action retreat. To learn more about us and our incredible community\, click here! \n \n  \nDaily Schedule\nThis is an active meditation retreat. There will be a combination of silent meditation and active exercises to help integrate your meditation into daily life. The exercises focus on body\, speech (communication & feelings) and mind (your heart) and will be practiced in pairs and in groups. There will be a daily morning classes and evening meditation with Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat. \nIn order to focus on your meditative work\, we ask that participants put away your cellphone\, books and digital technologies for the duration of the retreat. That said\, some speech exercises may invite you to use your cellphone or laptop as a way of practicing a wholesome relationship with technology. SUMMARY:Ignite Your Spiritual Life - Spring 2019
DESCRIPTION:The critical lost art of the spiritual container and how it can re-ignite your spiritual life\nA six-week online course running from April 6th to May 18th\, 2019 (no class at Easter\, April 20th) \nSaturdays 10am-11:30am Mountain Time (Click here to see your timezone) \nWe can easily feel overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. Especially in these turbulent times\, when it seems nobody is immune from growing levels of fear\, depression\, and anxiety. \nIf you’re like many people\, you may know what will help keep you calm and centered – like a regular meditation practice. Yet\, you have a hard time carrying this calm into your daily life. \nEven with a regular meditation time\, then\, you may still feel pulled off-center through the day. This is because your energy gets drained away. It’s like you’re trying to cross a desert\, and you’re holding your precious water in a leaky cup with no lid. \nIt doesn’t have to be this hard\nYet\, it’s possible even on the busiest days to stay centered\, alive\, and engaged. You can learn to set up your life to support and protect your precious energy. \n\nHow can you do this? By making your life into a cup that better holds your precious energy. \nThis course will teach you about the art of the spiritual container. By repairing the holes in your metaphorical leaky cup\, you can redesign your everyday life to be more like you’re in the protective space of retreat. \nSound impractical?\nWell\, don’t worry. Like you\, we’re not monks or nuns – not in this lifetime\, at least. \nThis is a practical course. \nIt looks at how we can thrive and grow in a busy world – it’s not about learning how to withdraw\, or fit in hours of formal meditation. \nThe magic of a retreat – a well-designed cup\nSo what are we talking about when we mention the supportive container of a retreat? If you haven’t been in retreat before\, take a moment and open your heart to the beauty of the experience. \n \nImagine moving in a space where you’re calm and clear enough to see the simple beauty of life around you. A space where\, whatever happens\, you have energy and a sense of equanimity to hold things lightly. \nSimple chores feel joyful and alive\, instead of heavy or mundane. You glide from task to task with ease\, seeing things just as they are and responding to what’s needed in the moment. \nPicture yourself being more compassionate\, friendly\, and open to others. You have the space to see when confusion or negative thoughts creep in\, for yourself or others\, and let them pass by without giving them energy to grow. \n\nDo you recognize anything there? We’ve all had those moments when the ego seems to quieten and all is right with the world. We can contact this on a morning walk in nature with a beloved pet\, a stroll on the beach\, or a slow Sunday at home. \nThese moments don’t have to be fleeting. Many moments in your daily life can be closer to this than you think – whether you’re at work\, at home\, at school\, or commuting\, there are things you can do to bring the beauty of retreat into your day. \nYou won’t be able to do that\, however\, unless you acknowledge what’s been missing. \nWhat’s missing? Attention to the outer supports you need for a strong container\nSo\, what isn’t working in our daily lives? Why do people\, who are trying their best to find calm\, presence\, and joy\, still sometimes feel disheartened\, stuck\, or lost? \nWell\, in fact it’s not surprising. \nEspecially in difficult times\, our daily demands will stay very much in charge – unless we change our lives to better support us. Unless we learn to carry our cup carefully\, and take care of it\, our precious water will keep spilling out or get polluted by what’s around us. \nThis is especially true if you’re one of those people who tends to take care of others\, more than you take care of yourself. \nYet\, once you set up better outer supports\, your life will become a container for generating and sustaining a sense of calm\, focus\, and joy. \nOuter support: The Five Principles of a good spiritual container\nThis course is for you\, then\, if you recognize that you’re leaking energy\, and want to do something about it. \nWe’ve studied this through years of running a retreat centre and applying what we learned to our own lives. From this\, we’ve rediscovered five ancient principles that help create the right outer conditions we’re talking about: \n \n1. Honor your space \n2. Structure and routine are your friends \n3. It’s easier with others \n4. Cleaning up big areas of your life frees up energy \n5. Conversations shape the space where we meet \n\n  \nThese are the factors that have made Clear Sky work. They have made it into a place that wakes people up and supports their practice. We’ve learned that these same principles can transform and support our daily lives\, too. \nThat’s why we created this course. We’ll share with you the insights and learning we’ve had from creating Clear Sky – a physical and virtual centre for awakening. We’ll lead you through using the practical framework of these five simple yet empowering principles\, that have actually been time-tested over centuries. \n\nAs well as the core content on each of the principles\, each webinar will include meditations and exercises to try in your daily life\, and an interactive room where you’ll get a chance to meet other participants. \nRegister Now\n\nAre you carrying a leaky cup? Try the quiz!\nSee how you’re doing in terms of the Five Principles\, and get simple tips for using them to free up energy. Click the image to open up a new page and take the quiz. \n \n\nWhy take the course? Ignite Your Spiritual Life will help you:\n** get relief from being reactive and stressed by daily events \n** move through blocks and old patterns that seemed like they’d never shift \n** establish a more consistent meditation practice \n** redesign your life to be more in line with your spiritual aspirations \n** connect with your heart and other people at a deeper level \n** make bigger a difference in the world from a more grounded and confident place \n** clarify where you want to direct your energy \nThough not required\, we highly recommend participants do a weekend retreat during or after the course to bring what they are learning deeper into consciousness\, especially if they have not experienced a retreat before. \nLearn more about the five principles in this 40-minute\, edited recording from a live webinar\, on March 29\, 2017: \n \n\n◊◊◊ \nTestimonials\n\n	\n\n\n\nTo have a weekly course like that it created space for me to reflect in a different way and to pause in a different way to focus on some of these questions.\nAnd [the principles] are so basic\, they're so important and that's why they're profound..[your course gave me] a feeling of more alignment with my path.\nMeg O Leary\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you\, thank you\, thank you!\nParticipant\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\nThe presenters were very good ... I think these principles are relevant not just for a spiritual practice but life as a whole.\nCourse Participant\, Spring 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nI found the course filled with a lot of practical information. I would recommend it to anybody interested in improving their spiritual practice. Thanks Karen and Duncan!\nCourse Participant\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith this course we learned how to strengthen our practice taking care of our meditation space\, creating wholesome habits\, exchanging and strengthening the practice with the support of the Sangha and so on. The outside is not separated from the inside. That is why taking care of the outside with attention\, generosity and joy\, we meet the clarity within us.\nRita Chirata\, 5 Principles Course\, Brazil 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nToward the end\, I realized that the principles give you a format to bring Dharma into - which reassures you that they are deeper than just the surface.\nGretta\, Mental Health Therapist\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\nIt's really\, really brought me back home to myself... I found myself in the past very scattered and would put off all the important things\, the spiritual aspects of life\, the mindfulness and so on\, just to blast through my day and get things done\, but now I am really taking pause. I still don't get everything done\, but I don't get everything done in a much more calm way\, haha\, in a much more soulful way... So for me that was probably the most important takeaway from the six week program is just you can't let those things slide no matter what because when you do\, you're giving up little bits of your soul and then you've really lost. ..That for me was wonderful to come back to.\nMorgana from Victoria\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen I was making my list of aspirations and plans for 2017\, I realized that I was structuring it from the five principles learned in the course “Outer Clarity.” The learnings served as a good medicine for doubts about how to lead transformations I want in my life.\nAll the principles have reinforced for me that it is necessary to water the outside garden very carefully\, with attention and presence\, so that the flowers of compassion and love can flourish inside and in my relations. Thank you\, dear Karen\, Duncan\, and Sangha.\nLuana Messena\, 5 Principles Course\, Brazil 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nI highly recommend the Ignite Your Spiritual Life online course. It is a great introduction for people exploring the Dharma path\, but it's valuable in daily life too! The course is also a great refresher for experienced practitioners\, which helps strengthens your spiritual practice and allows you to connect with the community.\nJenai Lieu\, Program Coordinator\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMy environment has changed\, the way I organize my activities\, my communication and trust in others ... Applying those principles can hold love and clarity for even big groups\, creating a genuine awakening field."\nEmmanuel Ponte - Five Principles Course\, Brazil 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you! I really felt both Karen and Duncan were so caring and sincere.\nParticipant\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe course had a big impact on me. It not only helped me to organize my life in different aspects\, like the respect towards my personal living spaces or the way I relate to others and with time\, I also understood the power meditation can have in my life and how it can contribute to making more assertive choices.\nI had a very strong empowering sensation of conscience expansion and  learned how to better deal with my emotions\, specially my anxiety\, throughout the meditation on spaciousness. Now\, I understand I am a better person and for that I’m very grateful.\nLemuel Simis\, 5 Principles Course\, Brazil 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nI am so impressed and happy with Karen and Duncan. You have done a fabulous job with this course\, and have provided a role model example of working together. I loved hearing your real life stories\, things that you have struggled with in life- this added another level of reality to it that was applicable to my reality too. \nCourse Participant\, Spring 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nI think this course is a beautiful\, utterly grounded and relevant way of making the spiritual life very real and integrated with how we are living every day of our lives. I also think that this course lays an important foundation for a meditation practice that can actually go somewhere as well as allowing a practice that may already be strong to better feed the other parts of our lives for a really well-rounded and truly fulfilling life.\nRuth Levin - Movement Educator & Solopreneur - Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\nKaren's guided meditations were lovely; they provided new ways to meditate and increase space-awareness- on the relevant issues. I'd like to go back and review them all so I can do them again. In fact\, I'd be happy to review the whole course week by week\, just from the recordings.\nCourse Participant\, Spring 2017\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n◊◊◊\n \n\nFurther Information – Click to read more\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Details of what we'll be teaching you.\n \n \n Since this course is about establishing a consistent meditation practice (the inner) and getting your life (the outer) more in line with your spiritual aspirations\, we’ve made each session a balance of this inner and outer work. \nWe start with a guided meditation or mindfulness practice to support a deepening daily reflective practice\, and then give fresh practical tips for integrating it into your daily life. \nTurning to the outer\, each session then focuses on one key principle for creating what we call a “spiritual container.” The container is the outer supportive conditions you can set up in your life to support your inner practice\, reconnect with your heart\, and help you break through old patterns that are holding you back. (See our How it Works page for more information on the 5 key principles of a spiritual container) \nEach session is lively and interactive\, including breakout sessions for discussion in groups\, sharing via the chat function\, and time for Q&A. We offer home “play” exercises (we prefer this to home “work” as the exercises are designed to be exploratory and fun!) for trying outside of the weekly sessions to explore and integrate the topics. \nWeek 1:   Creating a supportive space for your growth\n\nThree supports for being more mindful and present in daily life.\nThe missing element. Understand what a spiritual container is\, why it’s often forgotten\, and why it’s so important to achieving your goals.\nContacting that “aaahh” feeling that a well-created space can instantly create\nSix key aspects for creating a space to support your growth.\n\nWeek 2 :  Transforming habit and making friends with structure\n\nFresh awareness - tools for getting out of auto-pilot mode.\nLoosening and transforming unhelpful habits.\nConsciously choosing structures and routines so that you’re free to explore.\nHarnessing the power of ritual.\n\nWeek 3:   Quieting the monkey mind \n\nCalming internal dialog and chatter.\nCleaning up draining conversations and speech patterns.\nThe power of forgiveness.\nEstablishing healthy and generative communication\n\nWeek 4:    Part 1: Cleaning up big areas of your life frees up energy\n\nIdentifying big areas in your life that drain your energy.\nBeginning to ease the common drain and tension around money.\nExploring your vision and purpose.\n\nWeek 5:   Part 2: Cleaning up big areas of your life frees up energy\n\nWorking with distractions and overload.\nGetting off the “hamster wheel”.\nDeveloping a healthy relationship with time.\nLearning to “do nothing” - the importance of making space to play.\n\nWeek 6:   The power of community\n\nMeditations to strengthen kindness and compassion.\nEmbracing healthy relationships.\nThe power of community to support your growth.\nBringing it all together - how a  strong spiritual container is a launchpad for your growth.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The people who'll be teaching you\n \n \n Your hosts for this course have all experienced life-changing growth and unfoldment through their involvement with Clear Sky and its founding teachers.  Between us\, we bring years of studying and practicing in the lineage\, of teaching and meditating around the world\, and of governance and management of Clear Sky Centre. \nHere\, we’ve brought together the fruits of all our learning into the five principles\, offered here for the first time publicly as an online course. \nMain Hosts:\n\nKaren McAllister  \nAfter meeting our founding teachers in Japan\, I managed the meditation centre there for many years while serving simultaneously as part of the Clear Sky Board. In 2003\, I helped search for a site for Clear Sky\, looking at around 30 properties until we found our current location in the magical Kootenays. \nI'm now Chair of the Board and Director of Business Development. I'm passionate to be teaching the much-ignored principles of nurturing the factors - like honor your space\, structure\, and communication - that create the conditions we need to wake up more in daily life. \nDuncan Cryle \nI'm the former Clear Sky Chair\, a certified Mindfulness teacher\, Dharma teacher\, and an IBM Executive in Toronto. \nThrough 15 years of teaching meditation and mindfulness\, alongside an active career working all over the world\, I’ve learnt a lot about an integrated spiritual path.  With a Ph.D. in philosophy in my pocket\, I was gung ho to join a monastery until I met my root teachers Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat in Japan in 2001\, who turned my views upside down and encouraged me to grow and contribute at the busy end of life!   \nA founding member of Clear Sky in 2004\, I’m amazed at the power that working together in compassionate service has for enriching and widening spiritual growth.  Combined with a dynamic relationship and a challenging career\, I have fun with a wide-ranging and holistic approach to spiritual growth.  The spiritual container is a key aspect to this and I’m delighted to teach and share this course.\n \nAll of that made me more energetic\, active and with the will of exploring this big world. Not only that\, but gave me the strength to transform my daily practice making it more consistent. The changes and insights keep coming up and the Sangha has a giant role in maintaining my spiritual growth.\nI deeply thank the teachers Karen and Duncan for not giving up on guiding us through this wonderful path.\n   Tamires Low\nThe course has introduced complementary concepts that supported me on constructing a more consistent and deep practice\, which has contributed significantly for me to see the values that are really important to me\, and also gave me strength to keep them and go ahead\, no matter what the external circumstances may be. \n I can only give thanks for having the opportunity of being part of this group. Deep gratitude for the teachers that offered the course\, to the team that created it and to the Sangha that participated on the first group\, for allowing ourselves to be together on this learning.\nAna Paula Ueti\nYour Other Hosts:\nMichelle Heinz \nI began studying with the founding teachers and community of Clear Sky in 2003. With them I re-ignited that spark for life I'd been desperately missing and seeking. \nI love plunging into things and that’s exactly what I did with Clear Sky. Visiting Clear Sky every summer\, I started by developing the farm and land\, and then joined the Board of Directors. I then moved from Japan to live at and run the centre for 8 years. I still thrive on connecting with and bringing all kinds of people and events to Clear Sky. \nNow based in Nelson B.C.\, I'm part of a wakeful and innovative team. I help run a co-working space where I'm delighted to say that meditation\, mindful collaboration and teamwork are an integral part of my work day.  \nFun for me includes punning with friends\, finding new ways to eat sea buckthorn berries and getting outside whenever I can. \n\nAndy Rogers \nI first got interested in meditation through a school friend of mine who went on to become a monk in Thailand. I left the UK 20 years ago\, ending up in Japan for several years where I met Clear Sky's founding teachers through one of their students - and a founding member of Clear Sky - John Munroe. \nI've lived at Clear Sky for long periods since 2009 and also served as Treasurer and Board Member for five years. I now offer a weekly meditation and dharma class in nearby Kimberley. \nLiving or spending time at Clear Sky puts you in all kinds of roles. I've cooked for 30 people\, presented at AGMs\, written blogs and created budgets\, pulled weeds and repaired fences. And I can now see clearly that where I thrived and where I've struggled can be directly related to each of our new principles in some way. Can't wait to share them with you! \nI'm now Clear Sky's head copywriter and an active member of the Business Development team - the creators of this course! I love playing golf here in the picturesque Rockies\, though the golf season is painfully short! When I'm not pounding the magnetic dartboard in the Clear Sky office\, I also earn a living as a copywriter. \n\nMaryline Fortier \nI was introduced to Clear Sky through joining the Karma Yoga program (a 3-month service stay). I was instantly seduced by a new way of life - a way that my depth was seeking. I found a place\, a community where people work together and accompany yogis like me in the awakening process. \nThere\, I discovered what I'm passionate about: diving deeper inside\, understanding what it is to be a wholesome\, spiritual being - a being that is participating in the creation of an abundant life and that believes in the powerful ideal of service for the benefit of all. What an incredible journey! \nOriginally trained as a social work educator\, my eight years of work with youth in schools have convinced me to find a better\, deeper way to teach life skills to our next generation. I am now in a 3-year university course and I intend to start my own business in the fields of life skills and second-language teaching \nNow\, I am on the Clear Sky Sales and Business Development teams - and soon joining our Board of Directors - and my love for our offerings to the world is constantly increasing. I see how what we can provide to people is peaceful and loving states of mind. Working to support that? That's really a life worth living! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What's included\n \n \n What's Included\nBy joining this course\, you’ll get:\n       Six\, 90-minute interactive live webinars covering the five principles\, PLUS view access to recordings. \n       Exercises to give you an understanding of the principles of a spiritual container and how they affect your energy. \n       Reflections and meditations to help you stay grounded\, calm\, and centred. \n       The following tools and support: \nWeekly meditations: \nGuided meditations uploaded once a week during the course. This 15-minute offering is designed to help you quickly re-focus on the week’s principle between webinars\, helping you apply it directly in your day and providing some welcome supportive structure. \nFacebook Group \nJoin us and fellow participants in a private Facebook group focused on the principles. Providing you with an online community to support you between webinars was high on our list. Share about your insights\, explorations\, and discoveries and enjoy mutual support plus extra feedback from course teachers. We’ll also have fun practising and modeling for each other the 5th principle: discover how clear conscious communication creates a space for us to meet and share ideas. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Some Frequently Asked Questions\n \n \n Some Frequently Asked Questions\n \nAm I a good match for this course? \nAre you open to growth and an honest look at your patterns with a heart for changing what isn’t working for you any more? This course could be for you. You should also know that we’re more casual than formal\, more direct than politically correct or touchy feely. We hope that you’ll ask questions and engage with the material to get the most you can from the course. \nWill you try to convert me to Buddhism? \nNope. These principles support your growth\, whichever tradition or system you’re working with. And at the same time\, we’d like you to know that we’ll be referencing or using wisdom from various sources\, and will offer guided meditations and reflections as we go. We encourage you to explore anything you hear with an open heart and discerning mind\, and take the opportunities to ask questions. \nDo I need to have or start a meditation practice to do your course? \nIt helps if you have done some meditation. But don’t worry if you’ve never meditated\, had difficulty establishing a consistent practice\, or even if you feel you’re a “bad” meditator. This course is very much about giving you the support and understanding for an alive and regular meditative practice. \nHow practical is this course? \nWe’ll be looking at the practical\, everyday areas of our lives that – when in better alignment with our inner aspirations – can support our path. So we’ll be inviting and helping you to take ongoing\, practical action in your day-to-day life\, including things like your work\, family\, and relationships with other people. \nWhat interaction will I have with the instructors and other participants? \nTo enrich your learning\, we encourage participants to engage and share with each other in the private Facebook group. Clear Sky’s 3rd principle is about finding and engaging with others on the path\, and this course is one place to truly connect with others. We’ll also open space during the live sessions for questions and answers\, and we welcome your engagement and questions. \nDo you offer any more advanced level courses on this material? \nThis material is incredibly rich. We are developing deeper dives into each principle as well as material on applying the five principles at work\, at home\, and even at an organizational level for heart-centred groups and social enterprises. Look for future announcements via our emails and blogs. \nWhat is the cancellation policy? \nWe’d love to offer refunds\, yet because this series of webinars and the bonus offerings represent hours of dedicated work and we are offering it for a very low minimum offering\, there is a zero-refund policy on this course. We encourage you to register with a clear mind and heart\, and in a spirit of generosity. \n \n \n\n\n\n \n\n\nWhat it costs\nWe offer this course on the basis of dāna. \n\nRegister Now\n  \nClick here to go back up the page and see Further Information about the course\n  \nStill not sure? Fill out this online form and we’ll get back to you. We can even schedule a call if you’d like to speak to someone about the course.\n\n

SUMMARY:Insight Meditation Retreat
DESCRIPTION:A Ten-Day Meditation Retreat | March 15-24\, 2019\nWhy do we lose bliss? How do we regain it?\nBy popular demand\, our founding teachers are offering this ten-day insight meditation retreat. \nMost think of meditation as a sense of calm and concentration that leads to bliss. Yet\, bliss is impermanent and subject to loss. \nThrough training the mind to simply observe what is happening in the moment\, we realize that the self is that which searches for bliss\, and that this search is itself the root\, source\, and continuance of the struggle. \nThe path of insight leads us to the realization that there’s no inherent\, independent\, self identity to be found. This is called liberation\, awakening\, freedom. And it’s just a good idea. \nRead more on the Planet Dharma website now or click the button below to register now. \n  \nSee Early Bird Rates\n  \nThe teachers offer this retreat by the ancient principle of dana\, or generosity. Dana is paid separately to the registration fees\, which Clear Sky charges  to cover your food and accommodation.

SUMMARY:Six Yogas of Naropa - Dream Yoga & Light Yoga
DESCRIPTION:The Six Yogas of Naropa are one of the central practices of the Tibetan Kagyu lineage\, to which Clear Sky belongs. \nDuring these two weeks\, we will be focusing on the third and fourth Yogas of Naropa: Dream Yoga and Light Yoga. \nThese practices form a path to freedom through the development of deep understanding into the way things and formations arise and pass away. \nMeanwhile\, the teachings are grounded in the deep understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of Tantra. \nTo do this work\, each of us must leave behind all partial views and develop a complete “viewing.” \nBy studying the energy channels of the body\, the bindhus (hormones)\, and the overall functioning of the energy systems\, the Diamond Body emerges. A radiant energy body\, the Diamond Body is no longer subject to the blocks and malformations that are the natural result of conditioned patterns. \nWe enJOY–and share with all beings–the radiant and blissful result: kundalini energy. This burns up the amassed undergrowth of our unwholesome patterns\, resulting in the natural liberation of energy\, loving kindness and compassion. \nDumo Heat Yoga and Illusory-Body Yoga were taught and practiced in 2017. Bardo Yoga and Transformation Yoga be the focus of retreat at the end of 2019. \nDāna (Generosity Based Teaching)\nDoug & Catherine are teaching this meditation retreat via the ancient tradition of Dāna (generosity)\, an offering from them to the attendees. It is considered of supreme value to your life and thus “beyond price” so it is expected that the student will be equally generous and support the teaching and the teachers by making an offering. \nWhile no offering is too small\, also no offering is too great. The giver benefits by offering as much as they can\, given the individual’s circumstances. Along with compassion\, generosity is considered the root of spiritual progress and\, according to the ancients\, therefore the root of our success in daily life as well. \nFind out more about how you can practice Dāna. We invite you to offer Dāna when you register and via the Dāna bowl available at Clear Sky. \n\nBook Now

SUMMARY:Ignite Your Spiritual Life - An Online Course
DESCRIPTION:The critical lost art of the spiritual container and how it can reignite your spiritual life\nThis course has already run \nIf you’re like many people\, you may know what will help keep you calm and centered – like a regular meditation practice\, yet you have a hard time applying it in your daily life. \nEspecially in these turbulent times\, when it seems nobody is immune from growing levels of fear\, depression\, and anxiety in the world\, we cignan feel overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. \nEven with a regular meditation time\, you may still feel pulled off-center through the day. This is because your energy drains away\, little by little or even in sudden spills\, like nectar would from a leaky cup with no lid. \nYet\, it’s possible even on the busiest days to stay centered\, alive\, and engaged. You can learn to set up your life to support and protect your energy\, and re-ignite your spiritual life. \n\nHow can you do this? You can forge your life into a cup that supports your precious energy\, by learning about the art of the spiritual container. By repairing these holes in your metaphorical leaky cup\, you can redesign your everyday life to be more like you’re in the protective space of retreat. \nSounds impractical?\nWell\, don’t worry. Like you\, we’re not monks or nuns – not in this lifetime\, at least. This is a practical course that looks at how we can thrive and grow in a busy world – it’s not about learning how to withdraw\, or fit in hours of formal meditation. \nThe magic of a retreat – a cup that holds the nectar\nSo what are we talking about when we mention the supportive container of a retreat? If you haven’t been in retreat before\, take a moment and open your heart to the beauty of the experience. \n \nImagine moving in a space where you’re calm and bright enough to notice the simple beauty of life around you. A space where\, whatever happens\, you’ve got energy and a sense of equanimity to keep things in perspective. \nSimple chores feel joyful and alive\, instead of mundane. You move from task to task with ease\, seeing things just as they are and responding to what’s needed rather than reacting to what’s happening. \nPicture yourself being more compassionate\, friendly\, and open to other people. You enjoy the space to see when confusion or negative thoughts creep in for yourself or others\, and let them pass by without giving them energy to grow. \n\nDo you recognize anything there? Those moments when the ego seems to quieten and all is right with the world? We can get contact with this on a morning walk in nature with a beloved pet\, a stroll on the beach\, or a slow Sunday at home. \nThese moments don’t have to be fleeting moments you long for\, yet can’t get right now. Many moments in your daily life can be closer to this than you may think – whether you’re at work\, at home\, at school\, or commuting\, there are things you can do to bring the beauty of retreat into your day. \nYou won’t be able to do that\, however\, unless you acknowledge what’s been missing. \nWhat’s missing? Attention to the outer supports you need for a strong container\nSo\, what isn’t working in our daily lives? Why do people trying their best to find calm\, presence\, and joy still sometimes feel disheartened\, stuck\, or lost? \nWell\, in fact it’s not surprising. Especially in difficult times\, the daily demands of living will stay very much in charge – unless we tweak our lives to better support us. Unless we learn to carry our cup carefully and take care of it\, our precious nectar is bound to spill out or get diluted by what’s around us. \nIf the inner work you’re doing isn’t sustaining you\, then\, you’re probably missing the importance of the outer supports you need – especially if you’re one of those people who tends to take care of others\, more than you take care of yourself. \nYet once you set up these outer supports\, your life will be a better container for generating and sustaining a sense of calm\, focus\, and joy. \nOuter support: The Five Principles of a good spiritual container\nFrom years of running a retreat centre\, and applying what we learn to our own lives\, we’ve rediscovered five ancient principles that help create the right outer conditions we’re talking about: \n \n1. Honor your space \n2. Structure and routine are your friends \n3. It’s easier with others \n4. Cleaning up big areas of your life frees up energy \n5. Conversations shape the space where we meet \n\n  \nThese are the factors that have made Clear Sky work\, a place that wakes people up and supports their practice. And these same principles can transform and support our daily lives\, too. \nThat’s why we created this course. We’ll share with you the insights and learning we’ve had from creating Clear Sky – a physical and virtual centre for awakening – in the form of these five simple yet empowering principles\, that have been time-tested over centuries. \n\nAs well as the core content on each of the principles\, each webinar will include meditations and exercises to try in your daily life\, and will end with question-and-answer sessions. \n\n\nAre you carrying a leaky cup? Try the quiz!\nSee how you’re doing in terms of the Five Principles\, and get simple tips for using them to free up energy. Click the image to open up a new page and take the quiz. \n \n\nWhy take the course? I'd like to go back and review them all so I can do them again. In fact\, I'd be happy to review the whole course week by week\, just from the recordings.\nCourse Participant\, Spring 2017\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMy environment has changed\, the way I organize my activities\, my communication and trust in others ... Applying those principles can hold love and clarity for even big groups\, creating a genuine awakening field."\nEmmanuel Ponte - Five Principles Course\, Brazil 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nIt's really\, really brought me back home to myself... So for me that was probably the most important takeaway from the six week program is just you can't let those things slide no matter what because when you do\, you're giving up little bits of your soul and then you've really lost. ..That for me was wonderful to come back to.\nMorgana from Victoria\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\nToward the end\, I realized that the principles give you a format to bring Dharma into - which reassures you that they are deeper than just the surface.\nGretta\, Mental Health Therapist\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe course had a big impact on me. Now\, I understand I am a better person and for that I’m very grateful.\nLemuel Simis\, 5 Principles Course\, Brazil 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you\, thank you\, thank you!\nParticipant\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith this course we learned how to strengthen our practice taking care of our meditation space\, creating wholesome habits\, exchanging and strengthening the practice with the support of the Sangha and so on. The outside is not separated from the inside. That is why taking care of the outside with attention\, generosity and joy\, we meet the clarity within us.\nRita Chirata\, 5 Principles Course\, Brazil 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nI am so impressed and happy with Karen and Duncan. You have done a fabulous job with this course\, and have provided a role model example of working together. I loved hearing your real life stories\, things that you have struggled with in life- this added another level of reality to it that was applicable to my reality too. \nCourse Participant\, Spring 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nThe presenters were very good ... I think these principles are relevant not just for a spiritual practice but life as a whole.\nCourse Participant\, Spring 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nTo have a weekly course like that it created space for me to reflect in a different way and to pause in a different way to focus on some of these questions.\nAnd [the principles] are so basic\, they're so important and that's why they're profound..[your course gave me] a feeling of more alignment with my path.\nMeg O Leary\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\nI found the course filled with a lot of practical information. I would recommend it to anybody interested in improving their spiritual practice. Thanks Karen and Duncan!\nCourse Participant\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\nI highly recommend the Ignite Your Spiritual Life online course. It is a great introduction for people exploring the Dharma path\, but it's valuable in daily life too! The course is also a great refresher for experienced practitioners\, which helps strengthens your spiritual practice and allows you to connect with the community.\nJenai Lieu\, Program Coordinator\, Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\nI think this course is a beautiful\, utterly grounded and relevant way of making the spiritual life very real and integrated with how we are living every day of our lives. I also think that this course lays an important foundation for a meditation practice that can actually go somewhere as well as allowing a practice that may already be strong to better feed the other parts of our lives for a really well-rounded and truly fulfilling life.\nRuth Levin - Movement Educator & Solopreneur - Spring 2018\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen I was making my list of aspirations and plans for 2017\, I realized that I was structuring it from the five principles learned in the course “Outer Clarity.” The learnings served as a good medicine for doubts about how to lead transformations I want in my life.\nAll the principles have reinforced for me that it is necessary to water the outside garden very carefully\, with attention and presence\, so that the flowers of compassion and love can flourish inside and in my relations. Thank you\, dear Karen\, Duncan\, and Sangha.\nLuana Messena\, 5 Principles Course\, Brazil 2017\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you! \n\n

SUMMARY:Buddhas in Action Retreat 2018
DESCRIPTION:Awakening In Daily Life\nThis summer retreat is offered by Doug & Catherine Sensei\, Clear Sky’s founding teachers\, \nWhen we’re in the middle of modern samsaric busy-ness\, the spiritual life can feel out of reach. We want to relate meaningfully with those around us\, but we often feel unfulfilled. Work just leaves us feeling worn out and slightly empty. And sometimes the space between self and other feels like a tremendous gap. \nWe all need to earn a living and deal with day-to-day pressures. The wonderful news is that we can use contemporary spiritual practices at work and in relationship to feel fulfilled while doing so. These different parts of our life can support one another in beautiful ways\, leading to great feelings of meaningfulness\, balance\, and connection. \nRead more about spiritual practice at work in this blog\, Awakening Speedily Through Career. \nOur experience shows that blending study\, meditation\, and what we call “awakening through action” profoundly integrates spiritual practice with day-to-day demands. \nTraditionally\, spiritual seekers lived in monasteries or trained with their teacher in remote mountain caves. Throughout both traditions\, meditation and training were supplemented with practical application. \nThis practical application–also called karma yoga or the path of action–helped students learn to embody ever-growing wisdom and awareness moment-to-moment. The idea was always to share these fruits of spiritual practice in meaningful ways with the broader community\, for everyone’s benefit. \nWe’ve spent the last 20 years adapting this tradition of awakening through action to our modern lives\, at home\, in offices\, in conversations\, at our desks\, in meetings\, in bed and in the field. This profoundly practical application can help you find greater joy\, fulfillment\, and calm amidst your busy daily life. \nWhy Use Karma Yoga to Wake Up Your Work & Daily Life?\nBy learning the principles of karma yoga\, you can apply awareness and wisdom to everything you do. Cultivating this practice allows you to transform your work\, home and city life into a connective field of monastic or yogic practice. Your home becomes your monastery\, while your co-workers become your fellow yogis and yoginis. \nThis retreat gives you the building blocks to apply awareness\, compassion\, wisdom\, and strength to each moment. The result is greater fulfillment amid daily life and meaningful connection with others and the world around you. \nPlease note that this retreat and Clear Sky welcome people of all religious backgrounds and beliefs. This retreat is also open to all experience levels. \nWhy the Actions of “Service?”\nCalling our actions “service” instills the notion that we do it with and for others. Service helps both ourselves and others gain greater clarity and contentment throughout our daily activities. \nBy putting others first\, we give the ego a chance to relax. The result is increased success\, effectiveness\, and fulfillment in our work and relationships. This is a profoundly joyful experience. \nThis approach is highly relevant to the Western lifestyle of the 21st century. This course offers you the opportunity to learn from our experience and take it back home and to work with you. \nIn this course\, we’ll draw on traditional meditation and yogic practices and philosophy. We’ll also utilize exercises drawn from Namgyal Rinpoche’s Holistic Clearing practice\, Authentic Leadership\, Theory U\, Fifth Discipline\, Five Dysfunctions of a Team\, as well as original exercises we’ve created expressly for Karma Yoga and Dharma Training development. \nWhat’s Expected from Me if I Come to This Retreat?\nAn open mind and heart\, and a spirit of adventure are excellent things to bring! \nIt’s human to have some apprehensions about doing something new\, meeting new people\, or going to a new place. Particularly when all three happen together. We try to make this as supportive as possible. \nChanges – including positive ones – require movement\, and movement requires engaged energy. We ask you to engage with us around the teachings and activities that will support your learning and unfoldment around awakening in action. \nWhen exploring our growth edges\, it’s natural to feel uncertain and awkward. And it’s very fruitful to transform that emotional tension into creative energy by drawing on your own inner resources – such as inquiry\, going with the flow\, and self-reflection\, just a few of the many kinds of constructive engagement. \nTo maximize your learning\, we ask that you refrain from reading\, using the internet\, or listening to music during the course. We make an exception for journaling\, course assignments\, and dancing during exercises or group celebration – all great resources for integration and growth. \nLastly\, our teaching and Clear Sky operate based on the ancient tradition of dāna or generosity. Please learn more about this profound practice before you register. \n\nAbout the Teachers\nDharma Teachers Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat place great value on using every action as your practice for enlightenment. Combined\, they have been practicing Karma Yoga and meditation for more than 60 years. They both received lay ordination from the Canadian-born Ven. Namgyal Rinpoche\, and have shared teachings of liberation worldwide for decades. \nThis retreat is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in karma yoga learning and practice over a focused two-week period. Doug and Catherine typically teach students one-on-one at various times. It is suitable for their students who are already practicing karma yoga and for beginners alike. \nJoin this retreat for the valuable opportunity to help share these unique teachings in the contemporary world. \nRead more about the teachers on their website here: Doug & Catherine’s Bios \nDāna (Generosity Based Teaching)\nDoug & Catherine are teaching this meditation retreat via the ancient tradition of Dāna (generosity)\, an offering from them to the attendees. \n\nFurther Reading\nComing soon \nReady for Buddhas in Action?\nInvest in your growth and unfoldment with master Dharma teachers Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat this summer. SUMMARY:Western Mysteries Retreat: Body of Truth and Star Group
DESCRIPTION:May 11\, 2018 – May 19\, 2018\nThis retreat has passed\n  \nWestern Mysteries Retreat: Body of Truth and Star Group \nImagine being the change you want to see in the world. \nCreative visualization and active imagination are vital to the spiritual path. They improve our relationships with ourselves and others and grow our desire to benefit all beings. \nBy cultivating powerful visualization skills\, we can imagine our desired way of being into existence. As a bonus\, we strengthen the ability to see through and decrease our negativite states when they arise. \nThe Power of Western Meditations and Star Group\n \nBuddhist philosophy holds that the waking world is no more “real” than the worlds of meditation or dreams. Therefore our ability to imagine new and more diverse positive arisings is an essential skill for the bodhisattva path. \nDuring this retreat\, we’ll follow Namgyal Rinpoche’s pioneering work with these practices\, drawing on his book\, A Body of Truth\, and the Star Group meditation methodology that he developed. \nThe retreat will also include a Tibetan-style ceremony or Wong Kur\, on May 13th. It will center on the Tibetan deity archetype Vajrapani-Hayagriva-Garuda. A Wong Kur is a fun yet powerful ceremony of transmission. Our best word for it in English might be initiation\, or perhaps blessing\, of the energy of that particular archetype. \nWhat to expect:\n\nWe will explore diverse meditations from the Western Mystery tradition. This tradition focuses more on archetypes\, and less on human-centric deities and saints (which are present in traditions like Buddhism and Christianity).\nWe will draw on the use of forms\, elements\, shapes\, movement and color to stimulate transformative energies within us.\nWe will explore a broad spectrum of practices–from meditations on honeycombs to the Great Pyramid and its secret chambers.\nTo create a holistic experience\, we will balance the five elements\, inner and outer\, active and passive energies\, time indoors and outdoors\, alone and in groups.\nYou may discover hidden talents\, and increase your strengths. Negative internal blocks will loosen.\n\nWhat is Star Group?\nDeveloped by Namgyal Rinpoche\, Star Group is a rare and precious practice. Small groups of people meditate together to create a psychic platform where they collectively explore the depths of inner and outer space. Star Group meditation draws on the powers of several minds working together and individually\, increasing the range and power of our exploration\, meditative vision and joy. \nStar Group could be seen as a progression from meditating alone to meditating as a group or collective. This practice provides an outstanding opportunity to draw on meditation as a resource to develop relationship and community skills. \nIntegrating your experiences and energies with others benefits innumerable beings. We invite you to join us to train in becoming more skilled and compassionate for the benefit of all beings. \n*Early Bird Special until April 10th\, 2018.* \nBook Now\n\nAbout the Teachers:\n\n \nWe encourage everyone to find the “teacher within” that we can be. But\, for almost everyone\, we need to apprentice before we can master. Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat apprenticed in the teachings of awakening for decades with their teachers. Between them they have been teaching for more than 30 years. \nTheir explorations and teachings are guided by four principles: spiritual growth\, social connectivity\, economic sustainability and environmental integrity. \nDoug & Catherine teach from various wisdom traditions – including buddhadharma\, Western Mysteries\, modern science\, art and nature – based on broad interests and a non-judgemental approach. We’ve lived and worked overseas for many years\, and a planetary outlook is important to us. So is humour! \nRead more: Full Bios. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The retreat I just did at Clear Sky was beautiful. SUMMARY:Becoming a Work of Art - Easter Retreat 2018
DESCRIPTION:Paramis Weekend Retreat\, March 30 – April 2\, 2018. \nJoin us in this short retreat on the Buddhist Paramis (Paramitas). Along with the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Noble Path\, the Paramis form the essential building blocks of Buddhadharma. \n“Better to be a work of art than make a work of art.” – Namgyal Rinpoche \n\n\n\n\nA Meditation Retreat on the Paramis to Build your Foundations: Easter Long Weekend 2018\n\nAre the paramis and the Buddhist body of practice somewhat new to you? If so\, this course will provide you with fundamental resources around which to develop a practice for the rest of your life. \nEvery meditative practice in our tradition\, at some point\, comes back to the Paramis\, also known as the six perfections. These form a flawless path that carries us straight to spiritual enlightenment. It’s simple\, beautiful\, and powerful. Join us for this three-day weekend to get you squarely and joyfully on this path. \n  \nWhy Becoming a Work of Art?\nWould you rather create one work of art or become a work of art? In a culture that values external achievements\, we often forget the hidden gem inside us. This gem creates bliss\, wisdom\, and radiance\, and it is fiercely worth growing. \nLet your internal works of art flourish during our three-day retreat this May Long Weekend on the Paramis. Led by Dharma Teachers Doug Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat\, it is a perfect time to embrace springtime and nurture your inner potential. \nDuring this retreat\, we will study six aspects of consciousness that we may cultivate to become our own inner and outer works of art. These six aspects are called the paramis in Sanskrit\, and have been taught in the buddhadharma for more than two thousand years. \nThis retreat has a powerful experiential meditation component – participants will receive an initiation to the Chenrezi practice. Chenrezi is a form of ‘arising yoga’ from Vajrayana Buddhism. It is a principle practice of compassion that will give you full mind body experience of the Paramis. \nThe paramis are qualities that we grow to feel internally grounded and to act from a positive\, wholesome place in our relationships with others. They help us reside in a clear\, calm\, and loving place\, while becoming more curious and absorbed with our inner and outer worlds. With these qualities\, happiness and beautiful works of art shine. You can read more about the paramis in this Planet Dharma blog.\nWho is this course for?\nBecause we are active people with busy lives\, it is common to feel like we can’t take the time to get grounded. This affects how we work\, play\, and relate to each other. As the saying goes\, “when you’re up to your neck in alligators\, it’s hard to remember that your original intention was to drain the swamp.” \nThis short course is designed for those of us who feel challenged around making the time. \nAs well as studying the paramis\, we’ll explore how to cultivate mindfulness as we go about our daily lives. As our relationships and professional lives blossom\, we’re of greater service to ourselves\, our communities\, and the planet. \nThis retreat is intended to create a work of art that is founded in an abundant and durable happiness … even when there are ‘gators nipping at our heels.\n \n  \nCourse Outcomes:\n\nLearn to be more generous with ourselves and others\, materially\, emotionally and mentally.\nDevelop a greater sense of ease around thorny emotional issues.\nCultivate greater patience in the face of life’s ongoing challenges.\nOpen more energy through less resistance rooted in fear and mistrust.\nFind greater calm and focus based on a clearer sense of one’s place in the world.\nDiscover a closer connection to the wisdom inside us that arises from the development of the above outcomes.\n\n\nAbout the Teachers:\n \nWe encourage everyone to find the “teacher within” that we can be.
